The time: In the middle of summer, whether under scorching heat or a heavy thunderstorm spreading from the mountains over the abbey, the atmosphere always offers opportunities for inspiration...
The program: Music and the guitar, that’s what it’s all about, with highlights and fixed points including the opening concert, the concerts on Thursday and Friday, and on the 2nd Sunday, the final concert of the participants as a matinee. In addition, there will be exhibitions by guitar makers, showcasing guitars from student models to master concert guitars, of course with the opportunity to purchase a guitar.
The schedule: The week begins with the opening concert on Saturday, setting the tone for the upcoming days. On Sunday, individual lessons start according to the schedule. Soon after, usually after dinner, trial performances and the first practice concerts begin. Each day is rounded off with relaxing (except for the naturally exciting courage test) activities: night hikes, campfires, evening stories for the little ones... or for everyone. Important relaxation exercises and morning sports are also part of the program.
The support: Outside of lessons, there are always contact persons available, especially for the children, and round-the-clock support for all needs, even if a little homesickness arises among the youngest.
The lessons take place in the classrooms of the Abbey Gymnasium or in the music rooms, library, or lecture halls of the abbey. Whether student, pupil, guitar teacher, or interested hobby musician, everyone benefits from the intensive individual or ensemble lessons with...
... the instructors: Internationally successful guitarists and teachers make up the team that ensures professional instruction for this week.
The accommodation: The impressive abbey is located in the heart of the small village at an altitude of 843 meters. Behind it, the Seckauer Mountains rise to nearly 2400 meters, and there may still be snow at this time of year. Accommodation is provided in single rooms in the abbey, in St. Josef, or in St. Martha, the former convent building, which is just a few steps from the abbey. Here, there are single, double, and shared rooms (discounted rates apply for rooms with 3 children or teenagers). Meals are served together at fixed times in the abbey's dining room.
The atmosphere: What has characterized this event since its inception 25 years ago is the camaraderie among all participants. Intensive lessons, rehearsals, listening, admiring, supporting... Young and old, everything blends together during these days, intertwined with the music. Music fills the air, and guitar music resonates from every corner of the venerable walls for an entire week.
